First Visit Consultation Fee

The “first visit consultation fee” refers to the medical fee that is collected in addition to the first visit fee covered by health insurance. This system was established by the Japanese government to encourage the division of roles between hospitals and medical clinics. Under this system, the fee is collected from patients who received medical services at a hospital with 200 or more beds without a referral letter from another medical institution.

The Takashimadaira Chuo General Hospital is a hospital with 230 beds since December 2014 and collects this fee at the time of the patient’s first visit.

First visit consultation fee 2,750 yen (tax included)

The following first-time patients are not required to pay the first visit consultation fee.

  1. Patients who were transported to the hospital by ambulance
  2. Patients who are eligible for medical aid under public assistance
  3. Patients who are eligible for government medical subsidies, such as patients with “specific diseases” designated by the government
  4. Patients receiving medical services for occupational accidents including those serving public duties
  5. Patients who visited a clinical department for the first time but have been visiting a different clinical department of the hospital continuously
  6. Patients who brought a referral letter from another medical institution

The following cases are considered a first visit, and patients are required to pay the first visit consultation fee.

  1. When a patient received medical services for the first time without a referral letter from another medical institution
  2. When a patient received medical services for the same illness/symptoms as in the past, but had voluntarily discontinued receiving medical services and one month or more has passed
  3. When a patient’s injury or illness is a relapse of an injury or illness which was fully treated previously or was close to being fully treated
  4. When a patient only has an acute condition (e.g., a patient received medical services for a cold and two months later received medical services for a bruise)

If you will be visiting the Takashimadaira Chuo General Hospital for a new illness, we recommend that you first see your family doctor at your nearby clinic and receive a referral letter before visiting our hospital.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
